Who is Montessori?

An Italian physician and innovative educator, Dr. Maria Montessori is remembered and celebrated for her child-centered approach to education. She believed the seeds of lifetime learning are cultivated early in life, and we are a daily witness to this at MVMS.

What is Montessori?

We believe in the core philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori and her outstanding research on children’s abilities to learn. The Montessori school philosophy places your child in a classroom environment of inspiration and respect, encouraging your child to explore their curiosities and direct their own learning.

SOCIAL SKILLS

Montessori children live and work within a true community of children. In the supportive social environment of our school, your child will learn to:

  • Resolve conflicts peacefully

  • Learn to respect the rights of others

  • Work cooperatively with peers

  • Participate confidently as an individual

  • Learn self-assurance within small groups and with the entire class

  • "We’re so grateful for the foundation MVMS has provided our boys."

"As a parent who grew up attending Montessori schools, our family knew from the start that we wanted my children to experience the same child-centered approach to learning. Choosing MVMS was an easy decision for us. The convenient location, cost, and variety of scheduling options made it a great fit.

Both of our children thrived in the classroom environments. We watched them grow in confidence, independence, and academic curiosity. We saw social and emotional development as they learned to navigate friendships, express themselves, and communicate with both peers and adults.

The staff at MVMS are truly exceptional. Every teacher and staff member brings a genuine passion for working with this age group. It’s clear they believe in the Montessori philosophy and are committed to supporting each child’s individual journey.

We’re so grateful for the foundation MVMS has provided our boys."

The ROLE OF

The Guide

Unlike a traditional teacher, the Guide’s role is to introduce materials to the children on an individual basis, but then remain an observational presence in the classroom. They act as a sage or mentor, helping children as they discover and develop their curiosities.

It is remarkable how quickly children learn to follow their interests and mature well beyond their young age. That is what makes Mississippi Valley Montessori School a unique and loving environment for your child.

"The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence."
